Truckin Thunder’s Beginnings
Our story began in 1978 in Richmond when Tom and Judy purchased a franchise for MING (Masters in Natural Glazing) and built the first store on Midlothian Turnpike. Their hard work and entrepreneurial spirit served them well as they established themselves in the automotive industry in the Richmond area.
As time passed, they both recognized the need and opportunity to provide aftermarket accessories for vehicles and it was at this time that the idea of Truckin Thunder was born. It wasn’t long before an addition was made to the Midlothian store to house the added demands of a growing business.
Expansion and the Acquisition of Ashland Hitch
By the 90’s, Truckin Thunder was the full focus of the business and then the location at West Broad Street in Richmond was built allowing them to better serve their community. With their forward thinking vision, Tom and Judy planned the growth of Truckin Thunder to include a facility in Fredericksburg where their 10,000 square foot warehouse would serve the growing business.
In 2004, we purchased Ashland Hitch which helped us to serve the Central Virginia market better. Today, Truckin Thunder and Ashland Hitch continue to be our family business. We have seen many changes over the years and are honored to be able to help people find just what they need for their vehicle.
We are active members of SEMA (Speciality Equipment Marketing Association) and NTEA (National Truck Equipment Association) which are industry leading associations that provide us with our continuing education programs and allow us to stay on the cutting edge of the best our industry has to offer.
Supporting Our Communities
We strive to serve our community and employees every day. Our company motto is “Proud employees in a family-friendly environment”.
We have had two primary charitable focuses over the years. The first is ChildHelp. Our roots with ChildHelp are deep and include financial support and volunteer hours to benefit the kids in this awesome program.
Our second focus has been the welfare of animals through the SPCA in Fredericksburg, Old Dominion Humane Society and the SPCA in Richmond. It is through these organizations that we help to improve the lives of pets.
