One of the best features of your car is the leather interior. It probably really makes your car look classy, but there are some things that you need to do to take care of your investment so that it doesn’t fade or crack. Check out our guide below to preserve your leather interior in the best way possible.

1. Get All The Tools That You Need

You will need a variety of different items to clean and condition the interior of your car. These items include:

  • A vacuum
  • Shop towels
  • Lint-free cloths
  • A bucket with clean water
  • A leather cleaner
  • A leather sealer

2. Vacuum The Inside of Your Car

There’s a good chance that your car has gotten pretty dirty since you last vacuumed it. Because of this, you will probably need to spend a lot of time cleaning all of the little cracks and crevices of the interior. Cleaning as much of all of the dirt, dust, lint, and hair as possible will keep it from getting onto your leather interior.

3. Use a Lint-free Cloth to Wipe Down The Leather

Even after vacuuming the interior, the leather will still have oil on it from all of the people that have sat on the seats. You can remove it by using a lint-free cloth and a bit of water. After you dampen the cloth, you should pat down a section of the leather. Dry this section with a shop towel, and then move on to the next section.

4. Apply The Leather Cleaner to The Leather

If you really want to bring out the shine of the leather, you need to use a leather cleaner. These types of cleaners tend to have a conditioner in them as well that will make the leather feel softer. Before you apply it, you do need to test it on an area of the leather that’s fairly inconspicuous. If you find that the color of the leather bleeds, you need to use a different cleaner. If you don’t notice any changes to it, you can apply it to your leather with a lint-free cloth. Let it sit for a couple of minutes before you wipe it off.

5. Seal Your Leather

You can extend the life of the leather for as long as possible by using a leather sealant. This will keep the leather from drying out and help repel stains. Apply the sealant in a circular motion, let it dry for about an hour before wiping it off.
